There is a reason why art galleries all over the world appreciate a Platinum and Palladium print: it’s just perfect and has an indefinite life.

SINCE 1872 WITH LOVE

Printing a portrait at Platino and Palladio was the spark that made me fall in love with the magical world of ancient Author’s print. It is a source of pride to be among the few Italian photographers who can offer my clients such a rare and valuable print.

One of the peculiarities of ancient techniques is the brush-like application of the sensitive emulsion. This operation makes the work unique and gives it its characteristic appearance with jagged edges.

After having prepared the exact amount of Platinum and Palladium calculated in drops, spread the emulsion with a soft brush and let it rest to allow the paper to absorb completely.
The paper is placed in contact with the specially created negative and exposed to ultraviolet rays for several minutes. At the end of the process, the photograph is developed, fixed and washed in a process that lasts about an hour.

A Platinum and Palladium print is virtually eternal as the two precious metals are extremely stable. This results in a print that remains almost unchanged over time.

THE EXPERIENCE

To make your Author’s portrait on Platinum and Palladium we will proceed in two distinct phases.
The first part will be a 10/15 minute portrait session during which we will take several photos. Unlike the Wet Collodion where it is always good first, with this technique we can take a part of the advantages of digital photography so we will go to choose the ideal candidate for printing on Platinum and Palladium.
The second part will be related to the printing of the photograph with the creation of an internegative that will be printed in order to be then printed on contact on the paper sheet emulsified.
While the negative dries we will prepare the paper and, after about 30 minutes from the beginning of the second part, we can start the actual printing process.

The whole experience will last between 2 and 3 hours.

As mentioned above, therefore, also in this case, as for the Wetplate Collodion, you can follow the whole printing process.
Platinum and Palladium is not sensitive to visible light so it will be possible to work in dim light without the need for a darkroom.
The portrait on Platinum and Palladium that I propose to you passes through a digital phase which allows, if necessary or desirable, the possibility of post production. This means that we can intervene on the original shot to achieve a reduction of facial imperfections.
The interventions will be small and minimally invasive.
The idea behind my portrait is to be honest with oneself and to put too much effort into post-production would cancel out this philosophy.
